Day Seven

“Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan… No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people will through their righteous might win through to absolute victory… With confidence in our armed forces-with the unbounded determination of our people-we will gain the inevitable triumph-so help us God. I, therefore, ask that the Congress declare that since the dastardly and unprovoked attack by Japan on Sunday, December seventh, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.”

-President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Dec. 8, 1941, asking Congress to declare war on Japan

Today is a day of remembrance. The attack on pearl harbor, thank you to all the men and women who fought and continue to fight for our freedom. I have multiple friends and family who have served and are serving in the armed forces. I am amazed over and over again about how lucky I am to live in the United States. I am humbled over and over again at the bravery and courage I see everyday. The only channels I have are news channels. Whenever I see all the hate and turmoil in the world my heart hurts. It's moments when I feel the most hate that I'm so thankful for all of my blessings. I am thankful for the men and women who give up their lives and freedom for me. Today I'm thankful for patriotic soldiers. I am also thankful for the soldier's families who live without their dads, moms, sisters, brothers, sons, daughter, aunts and uncles. I can not imagine saying goodbye to a spouse for a year and not knowing if I'll see them again. I hope anyone who is suffering from losing a loved one can be comforted. I am thankful for Dustin Birch and his family. They helped me to see my first glimpse of patriotism. I will forever be grateful to him. I hope that everyone keeps the soldiers and family in their prayers. God Bless America.
